Travellers have been advised to avoid booking flights on Zambezi Airlines, after the carrier's operating certificate was revoked and it was forced to shut down operations, according to news reports.

Although the airline said it was working to comply with license requirements, Manager Corporate Affairs and Communications, George Makulu, conceded that the airline would remain grounded "indefinitely".

Zambezi Airlines launched flights to Cape Town and Johannesburg earlier this year, offering affordable fares to Livingstone and Lusaka.

He added: "Unfortunately it is true that the government has suspended our air services permit. This means we will not be operating flights or selling tickets. The action is indefinite.

"Our board is making every effort to have the license restored. Agents should contact our office in Cape Town or Johannesburg for refunds."
